“The biggest benefit the program has given me is the chance to reflect on the teacher I want to be, the teacher my students deserve.”
Middle School Teacher, Clay County, SWS Steering Committee

About Solving with Students

Launched in 2021, Solving with Students is Impact Florida’s first teacher-only learning cadre. It empowers secondary math teachers to gather and act on student feedback through cycles of reflection, strategy testing, and continuous improvement. Teachers use an anonymous survey tool to capture student perspectives, analyze results, discuss them with students, and adjust instruction accordingly, all while receiving coaching and support from coaches and peers.

  • 185 teachers serving over 27,000 students in 24 districts statewide since launch
  • Three-year programing open to grades 6–12 math teachers in participating districts
  • Grounded in the Five Conditions that Support Great Teaching
  • Participants receive one-on-one coaching and opportunities to collaborate with and learn from their peers across the state
“I am getting more in tune with the needs of my students and thinking more about how I can improve their experience in the classroom.”
Middle school teacher, Santa Rosa County

Why it Matters

Many cadre members describe engaging in student feedback cycles as transformative. Seeing their classrooms through their students’ eyes opened new possibilities for connection and growth.

Solving with Students teachers know that feedback is more than a survey. It is a dialogue that helps students and teachers grow together.

“Through the cadre, I realized that yes, it’s about me, but it’s about me from the students’ points of view. And this work was making me better for them.”
High School Teacher, Flagler County

Program Design

Solving with Students combines evidence-based design with personal connection and collaboration.

  • Four Cycles of Continuous Improvement per Year: Teachers gather student feedback, reflect, test strategies, and repeat.
  • Coaching and Community: Each member receives one-on-one coaching during the first year, small group coaching in their second year, and participates in virtual Community Calls that bring together teachers from across the state who are committed to elevating students’ voices in their classrooms.
  • Support and Belonging: 96% of teachers said the program aligns with their professional goals and keeps them connected to students and peers.

“There hasn’t been a single Community Call in four years that I haven’t left with something new to try. With new members come new ideas, and I need that.”
High School Teacher, Brevard Public Schools, SWS Steering Committee

Impact

When teachers listen to their students, classrooms change. Solving with Students gives educators the tools to make that listening intentional, actionable, and lasting.

Across Florida, participating teachers report stronger relationships, higher engagement, and measurable gains in learning conditions and student outcomes.

  • 100% of teachers report making permanent, substantive changes to their teaching practice.
  • 96% plan to remain in the classroom, exceeding both state and national retention averages.
  • Students reported statistically significant improvement in 9 of 14 survey items, including comfort sharing ideas, learning from peers’ mistakes, and connecting math to real life.
  • 87% of teachers’ students reported growth in learning from classmates’ mistakes, and 76% reported growth in feeling comfortable sharing their thoughts and opinions.

The numbers tell part of the story. The rest lives in the voices of teachers who rediscovered why they teach and students who found their voices in classrooms built on trust.

"This work has unleashed me. I was trying to fit this mold of what I thought I was supposed to be as a teacher. Solving with Students helped me figure out who I am supposed to be."
Middle School Teacher, Clay County
“In my experience researching and evaluating teacher professional learning, it is incredibly rare to find such consistent results from teachers at such a variety of times in their professional careers.”
